Mission Statement

Dedicated to the advancement of women in the arts, sciences, and technologies of film, television, and digital media, WIFT promotes and pursues the equitable treatment for women in the industry, offers continuing education, and pursues opportunities for individuals aspiring to work in our industry.

About Your Chapter/History

The Houston Chapter was chartered in 1995 as Women In Film/Houston. Our founding President was Melody Moss, who is once again serving on our board. In 1998 the name was changed to Women In Film & Television/Houston. WIFT Houston is a 501(c)(3) Texas corporation, offering educational opportunities, and innovative programs, special events, networking, and service to our industry and community.

We provide frequent networking opportunities with industry leaders; post job openings and industry news; recognize and encourage the contributions of women in the field, particularly Houston residents, past and present.

One of the benefits of membership is the ability to attend pre-release screenings, often with actors, directors, writers, and/or producers present. We maintain funds for both scholarship and film finishing provided in part by WIF/GM Alliance, the Deborah Duncan Scholarship, and the Linda Lowe Film Finishing Fund.

In 2010 we completed a Short Script competition among our membership, with a $500 cash award going to our 1st Place Winner, Diane Daniels. Our chapter is currently raising funds to film the short during 2011.

We collaborate with other industry organizations for the benefit of our members and the industry.

In 2002, we honored Shelley Duvall, with our first Reel Stars of Texas Award, and in 2006, the Reel Stars of Texas Award went to Houstonians Chandra Wilson and Isaiah Washington.
